How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?
Laser treatment targets tattoo pigment, breaking the ink into smaller particles that the body gradually clears. Fading develops over time, and multiple sessions are usually needed. Treatment intervals allow the skin to heal and the body to clear the treated pigment.
Your Treatment Starts with an Assessment
Before treatment, your tattoo and skin are examined to assess suitability and discuss realistic expectations. Your consultation considers:
· The tattoo’s size, location, age and colours.
· The amount and depth of ink, including any layering.
· Your skin type, medical history and previous treatments.
· The likely treatment course, aftercare and possible side effects.
The treatment approach and spacing between sessions are tailored to your individual assessment.
What Results Can You Expect?
Tattoo removal is a gradual process. Some tattoos respond more readily than others, and different ink colours may require different laser wavelengths. The degree of fading and number of sessions vary between individuals.
Complete removal cannot be guaranteed. Some residual pigment or an outline may remain, even after a course of treatment.
Comfort, Recovery and Aftercare
Laser tattoo removal can cause discomfort, and suitable numbing options may be discussed. Temporary redness, swelling, blistering or crusting can occur after treatment. Changes in skin colour, infection and scarring are also possible.
Following your dermatologist’s aftercare instructions is an essential part of treatment. Care generally includes protecting the area from sunlight, keeping it clean and avoiding picking at blisters or crusts.
